Eastern Arrernte are a new, young band emerging from the community of Santa Teresa, 80 km from Alice Springs. They sing songs in Eastern Arrernte as well as English – and their lyrics revolve around themes of place, country, family and nature. They have written many songs, and have recorded some of them out in Santa Teresa with Francis Dischenko.
With their members ranging in their teens and early 20s, this band is currently being mentored by Eastern Reggae Band who have attended Bush Bands Bash several times. Eastern Reggae are keen to pass on their own knowledge, but also to enable this young band to enjoy the benefits of learning all they can from BBB.
Eastern Arrernte will be performing at the NAIDOC Day celebrations in Alice Springs on 8 July.
