South Australian singer songwriter, Kelly Menhennett has been quietly creating a stir with her unique songwriting, soulful vocals and earthy, honest persona. 2012 began with a bang, performing her rootsy tunes with her band at the iconic 2011/12 Woodford Folk Festival, going on to win the national 2011/12 “Telstra Road To Discovery Songwriter” award and then performing at Sounds Australia showcases at the 2012 Americana Music Festival in Nashville. It's clear to say Kelly has moved on from her initial days performing at a local club in country South Australia, calling out meal orders in between songs. In late 2007 Kelly hung up her muddy vineyard boots and left her job as a winemaker to pursue her music and busk on the streets of Europe. In late 2010, accompanied by her newly formed band consisting of Shireen Khemlani (bass), Tim Irrgang (drums) and Richard Coates (keys/accordion), Kelly released her debut album “World Of Mine”. 2013 will see Kelly returning to the studio, this time in Nashville, to record her 2nd full length album, to be released early 2014. A self-described “old soul in a young person’s body” Kelly’s live show, solo or with her band, is a captivating hybrid of her folk, roots and alt-country, seasoned with her warm, distinct vocals. Over the past few years Kelly has graced the stages of some of Australia's great venues and festivals such as the Adelaide Fringe Festival, Feast Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, Falls Festival and the Tamworth Country Music Festival. With a belly full of desire to develop her craft, to keep making great music and share it with the masses there’s no doubt Kelly will continue to grow her loyal following and keep paving her own way through the Australian music scene.
