I, the Burden take on a massive challenge at this year’s intune youth conference - can they write and record a new song in one day under the fascinated gaze of a public audience? On Friday April 11, they will be attempting this task at the Happy Yess with producer Jimi Maroudas (Eskimo Joe, Kimbra, The Living End) at the helm. Jimi will mentor emerging Darwin producer Ben Masters who will go on to complete the final product by sundown. While the musicians and producers are hard at work, ABC Open’s Will Tinapple and a group of daring young filmmakers will create the accompanying video clip. Be at the Yess for the big reveal at 5:45 pm. Or drop in at one of the following viewing times and see how a song comes together.

  • 10am–10:30am: Finding Inspiration (I, the Burden start writing song from inspirational points offered by participants in the first songwriting workshop; they work collaboratively under the guidance of producer Jimi Maroudas and assistant producer Ben Masters. Will and young filmmakers absorb song ideas. Will instructs filmmakers; hears their ideas; commences filming)
  • 12pm–12:30pm: Recording Step 1 (Jimi Maroudas, Ben Masters and I, the Burden commence recording the song Filmmakers return to HY to assess how their films are working for the song & possibly film I, the Burden and producers in action)
  • 2pm–2:30pm: Recording Step 2 (Audience checks on recording progress; Jimi hands over production reigns to Ben Masters Filmmakers are elsewhere, filming and editing their work)
  • 5:45pm–6:00pm: A Song is Born (Hear the final product, watch the video & discuss the process & results)
